As always quality is important. That´s why most of the footage on this site was shot using professional HD equipment. For the past 3 years I have been shooting using XDCAM HD. The clips on the site are HDV files encoded from the XDCAM masters.
Why HDV? Well the aim of this store is to offer a simple way of licencing and downloading clips for use in non broadcast productions. HDV offers good quality with small file sizes which helps keep the cost down. HDV is also widely accepted by most edit applications. If your edit software can´t directly import HDV then there are plenty of free conversion tools available that will quickly convert the HDV files to AVI, Quicktime or Mpeg. I particularly recommend
MpegStreamClip by Squared 5. There are versions for both the Mac and PC.
I will be keeping a close eye on formats and requests. In the future I hope to be able to offer native XDCAM MXF files for download from the site.
